Hi! I’m Amanda, a parent who believes that travel can still be meaningful – even when it requires flexibility, recalibration, and realistic expectations. I don’t believe in perfect itineraries. I believe in thoughtful planning, honest reflection, and finding ways to make the world feel accessible for our family.
About Flip Flops to Fjords
I started Flip Flops to Fjords because I want to show my kids the world – not someday, but now.
Travel looks different when you’re raising kids. It looks different again when flexibility, pacing, and thoughtful planning matter even more. For our family, that hasn’t meant traveling less. It’s meant traveling differently.
We build in room for schedule changes. We adjust expectations. We plan with intention instead of rigidity. And we’ve learned that when we do, we’re able to make the most of the places we visit – from simple beach weekends to bucket-list destinations like Iceland.
This site exists for parents who don’t want to be deterred from travel because it feels harder with kids. It is harder sometimes. But it’s also meaningful, possible, and worth doing.
We also travel with a neurodivergent child, which means we plan differently, move flexibly, and learn as we go. On this site, I shared what worked for our family, what didn’t, and what I wish I had known sooner- always with the understanding that every child and every family is different.
This isn’t a guide to doing it “right.”
It’s lived experience.
What you’ll find here:

I focus on logistics, pacing, and realistic expectations rather than personal details about my children. My goal is to help families travel more thoughtfully, confidently, and sustainably – without burnout.
